Installing the Windows 2008 Hyper-V
December 25th, 2009 | by admin |Software hardwares are very much underused in most file and application servers. To be sure, majority of servers utilize only a mere 10 percent of the hardware’s total capacity. Many solftware companies and Microsoft have been providing server virtualization solutions that enables users to run multiple server instances in one machine.
When Microsoft released Windows Server 2008, they introduced a new feature called Hyper-V. The Windows 2008 Hyper-V is a server virtualization role that is designed to be the successor to Microsoft’s Virtual Server 2005. Keep in mind though that Hyper-V uses a unique installation and configuration process than its predecessor. This article will provide you information on how to correctly install the Hyper-V role on Windows Server 2008.

Perform a clean installation
The first thing that I recommend doing is to perform a clean installation of Windows Server 2008. We recommend that you utilize a clean Windows installation on a dedicated server as server virtualization uses resources to the maximum compared with other server applications.
Installing the Hyper-V role
Now, log in using an account with local administrative privileges, and then open the Server manager. In case you aren’t familiar with the Server Manager, it’s the new tool that acts as a centralized management utility for Windows 2008 Hyper V. You can access it by entering the ServerManager.msc command at the server’s Run prompt.
When Server Manager opens, right click on the Roles container, and then choose the Add Roles command from the resulting shortcut menu. Expect the Add Roles Wizard to be introduced by Windows.
Click Next to bypass the wizard’s Welcome screen and then you should see a screen similar to the one shown in Figure A, asking you which roles you would like to install. Check the Hyper-V box and then click Next.
